The Titanic App – Commemorating the 100th Anniversary

January 13, 2012 by thehistorypressuk

Titanic: Her Journey
Release date: 12th March 2012

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship, Titanic: Her Journey is the definitive interactive Titanic experience, telling the story of her maiden voyage in the most engaging way to date.

On the night of 14th April 1912, RMS Titanic – considered unsinkable – struck an iceberg and sank in a little over two hours, resulting in the deaths of 1,517 people, a rude awakening in an age of ever larger and more luxurious liners. Since the disaster the world has been fascinated by her story; intensive inquiry and decades of research have uncovered an abundance of material, paying homage to the ‘ship of dreams’. Now, as the centenary approaches, the world is enthralled by her story again.

This highly engaging and intuitive iPad app collates the knowledge of the world’s foremost Titanic experts, providing the perfect platform to experience the ship’s journey. With unique features, such as interactive deck plans, detailed biographies of the ship’s key figures, contemporary film, narrated survivor accounts and a wide range of photographs from every stage of the ship’s life, The Titanic App provides an innovative way to explore the story of the most famous luxury liner in history.

·     It’s the first app to detail every aspect of the Titanic legacy, following her journey from the docks of Belfast to her eventual resting place in the icy waters of the north Atlantic.
·     Features include rare archive footage, details and photographs of the ship’s construction, the sinking timeline and ‘Did You Know?’ facts.
·     Will appeal to a wide cross-section of app consumers, from the most dedicated Titanic enthusiast to children wanting to develop their knowledge of the Titanic’s maiden voyage.
·     All content for the app is derived from the books and research of The History Press’ expert authors.

The History Press’ sales and marketing director, Tim Davies, comments, ”This year’s 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship is already generating huge interest and is an opportunity to maximize the value of our extensive and definitive Titanic content and to deliver it in a new way. The Titanic App looks fantastic and we’re confident that both enthusiasts and general consumers alike will enjoy it enormously.”

The Firsty Group’s founder and CEO, Darin Brockman, says, “We were delighted to secure the opportunity to work with The History Press and to develop this important app, which reflects the creative and technical skills of the Firsty team. With so much great content, the biggest production challenge was actually deciding what not to include!  The final design and the rich layers of content combine to create an engaging and authoritative tablet experience.”
